PT-BIOP Microscopy courses
Details:
As in the previous years the PT-BIOP is going to offer two courses covering the basics of microscopy in the beginning of 2012. In addition we are offering a course on basic image-processing. The aim of these courses is to introduce the participants into the basics of light-microscopy in general and the imaging methods available in the PT-BIOP.
After the course(s) participants should have theoretical understanding of the topics taught and how the methods are applied to real experiments on the available devices at the imaging platform. These courses are not meant to replace the introduction to the different microscopes but to give a broad and solid overview over light-microscopic methods especially useful for life-science applications.
As the courses strongly depend on each other, participation in the order of their occurrence is recommended (but not mandatory).
Course 1+2 will last three entire days. Thus experiments at the same time will hardly be possible. The course on image processing will be held in the afternoon and it is required that you bring your own computer/labtop along with you.
These courses are open to everybody also participants from outside the EPFL are very welcome. Although it should be noted that PhD students cannot receive any credits for the courses. For that purpose there will be an additional course at a later time-point (probably in September 2012).
In the morning of each day lectures on the theoretical background of the specific topics and their practical implementation will be given.
In the afternoons participants will apply the theoretical knowledge taught during the lectures to hands on experiments.
The number of participants of the practical part is limited. If you wish to participate in the practical part of the course(s) please e-mail to biop@epfl.ch indicating your name, the name of your group-leader and which course you want to participate. Please also note that we will charge a registration fee of 150 CHF for applicants from EPFL for each course. The registration fee for academic applicants outside EPFL is 250 CHF and 450 CHF for non-academic applicants.
Applications are managed on a first come, first served basis. Registration is open until all places of the practical part are filled (first come, first served).
Lectures which will be held in the morning are open to everybody (thus registration is not necessary).
